Last Herb AM 2011

Una de las novedades de este año que mas ha llamado la atención ha sido la Last Herb AM, un atípico cuadro de Enduro con recorridos cortos (140mm), Geometría casi de DH y un cuadro potente...











Para la comparativa he usado dos modelos con una filosofía bastante parecida a la de la Herb AM (Geometría y recorridos), aunque los sistemas son muy diferentes entre si, sobre todo en el tema de la eficacia de pedaleo: La Banshee tiene un porcentaje de Anti-Squat exagerado, la Knolly es al contrario, y tiene poquisimo. La Herb AM está en un termino medio y tiene una efectividad de pedaleo bastante buena. Al tratarse de un sistema monopivote el Kickback y el Brake-Squat (87%) son muy previsibles.

El Leverage Ratio sin embargo es un poco mejor en el caso de la Spitfire y la Endorphin. La Herb AM tiene el típico LR Regresivo-Progresivo, aunque hay que decir que cuando el tramo regresivo es pequeño tampoco tiene mucha importancia, casi se puede decir que es un sistema Lineal-Progresivo... De la misma manera que podríamos decir que la Banshee y la Knolly son Progresivas-Lineales.

The Last Herb AM can take a 165mm shock by removing the red adaptor at the bottom of the shock. the stroke of the shock needed for this is 66mm. Can you compare the 145mm and 165mm frames? Do you have the "linkage" file of the last herb am? So I can open it in linkage?

I'm not 100% sure on the 165mm version but I ve uploaded both to the Likage Library. In my file it only needs a 216x63 Shock to get 165mm of travel but It looks like the shock doesn't align with the lower shock mount... Maybe the shock is a 222x66mm (It's a weird size) or maybe they change the geometry of the bike a little bit... but anyway, the frame is going to work pretty much the same.

Wow!! Thank you very much! Yes it comes with 222x66 and exactly the same frame. I have modified the shock eye in the demo version of linkage. I was interested in the forces and leverage ratio for the extra 20mm of wheel travel - If you set the 222x66 shock with the same amount of sag as the 200x57 (for example - 20mm on the shock, not 30% of wheel travel) the first 145mm of travel should feel the same and then you have 20mm of stiffer travel? It depends on what kind of shock is on the frame. With an air shock if you set the two frames with the same SAG on the shock they are going to feel a little bit different, Why? Because the relative size of the positive and negative air chamber in the longer shock is different (They are not proportional...). If you use a Coil Shock then yes, they are the same and you have 20mm of extra travel.
